Bad News

The other night, I was playing with Dee Dee. Since it was pretty late at night, I had most of the major lights off & only had 1 floor light on. I noticed that Dee Dee’s right eye is pearly white. Fearing the worse, I held her up against the light for a closer look …. her right eye is really pearly white! Her other eye is still black though. I guess she has cataract in one eye? I’m guessing that she’s slowly lose vision in her poor eye (if she hasn’t already lost her vision), but I hope that she’ll still be able to see with her good eye. Poor girlie. She is one disheveled hammie; nevertheless, I still think she’s one sweet girlie.

Poor girl. It happens to senior rabbits, too. I’ve read that blind rabbits adapt really well as long as objects in their surroundings remain constant (so they can make their way around and know where to look for food/water/litter box etc.)Kisses to Dee Dee.. what an adorable hammie

Yea, one of the blogs I follow is about this blind hare, Buster http://busterjourney.blogspot.com/
I think Dee Dee will be fine. Thanks for the wishes.

Ah, I’m sure she’ll be fine. Hamsters make use by their sense and sound so they still can carry on eventhough they have cataract. Most of my hammies were two eyes white when they were over 1 and half yrs old, but they were fine. So she’ll be ok too.

It is either cataract, or an injury. If it’s an injury, it will heal. No worries too even if it’s cataract coz like kisetsu said, they will still be able to live normally (dashing across the cage at high speed without a problem) since hamsters had bad eye sights anyway =)
