From the chinnies (since they haven’t been featured on the blog lately):

ps: these pumpkins have been sitting in the fridge for too long, that’s why the face paint on the large pumpkin is peeling off.

Angry Tubby

August 22nd, 2009

Having a lot less out-of-cage playtime these past 2 weeks due to my busy schedule, Tubby managed to devise a way to get back at me:

Tubby sharp apple

Yep, the ever-so-sly Tubby created sharp threatening tools out of apple sticks just to get back at me, I’m sure. I’m scared .. that one of these nights he’ll escape from his cage and really attack me.

Summer Goodness – Strawberry

August 2nd, 2009

Leaves that is!

Tubby strawberry leaf

The chinchillas love dried strawberry leaves! They can’t eat the strawberries because they’re too wet (& may lead to diarrhea). Since I don’t have a dehydrator (which is on my wishlist), I wash the leaves clean and just air-dry them. I have a tupperware full of strawberry leaves that I picked from my garden. Hopefully that’ll last for awhile.

Summer Goodness – Cilantro

July 22nd, 2009

Since it’s summer, I’ve been keeping a vegetable garden growing all sorts of things. One of the things I’m growing is cilantro & my cilantros are going crazy! They keep going to seed every week & I have to keep trimming them. That’s surely a good thing for the hamsters :-)

ps: the chinchillas also like cilantros, but they like them slightly crispy & dry.

Vischaca

March 20th, 2009

Boyfriend has a background picture of Machu Picchu on his computer. So I casually mentioned to him that Machu Picchu is where Tubby & Winnie’s cousins are from. He gave me the weirdest look; after all these times of owning 2 chinchillas, he had always thought that the Andes mountain (where chinchillas are from) is geographically located somewhere near India & Nepal 0_o

Then, he curiously searched for “Machu Picchu chinchilla” and he found a bunch of travel pictures of ‘chinchillas’ residing in the Machu Picchu ruins. When he shared the search results with me, I remember of another creature my friend had emailed me about; those are not pictures of ‘chinchillas’ residing in Machu Picchu, but they are Vischacas! They’re close cousins of chinchillas, no wonder people mistakenly believe that they are in fact chinchillas!

One of these days I do want to make a trip to Chile’s part of the Andes mountain, where Tubby is from; and then I’m going to throw some raisins at the wild chinchillas* ;-)

*I’m just saying; don’t do this because it’ll only make the wild animals dependent on humans & it’ll just make it harder for them to survive on their own in their natural habitat.
