Ageing Joey

I haven’t seen my doggie for over 8 months and it feels like he’s aged a lot:

The fur on his cheek has turned white ..

And the fur around his nose has turned white, too.

We’re not sure of his real age, but he was supposedly born in December of 2000, which makes him 9 years old this year. The problem is, we’re sure of he is an American or an English Cocker Spaniel; American Cocker Spaniels have an average lifespan of 10-11 years (too short) and English Cocker Spaniels have an average lifespan of 11-12 years (still too short!). Not sure why cocker spaniels’ lifespan is shorter than other purebreeds. I hope that with a healthy lifestyle, Joey can beat the statistics :-)

Vischaca

Boyfriend has a background picture of Machu Picchu on his computer. So I casually mentioned to him that Machu Picchu is where Tubby & Winnie’s cousins are from. He gave me the weirdest look; after all these times of owning 2 chinchillas, he had always thought that the Andes mountain (where chinchillas are from) is geographically located somewhere near India & Nepal 0_o

Then, he curiously searched for “Machu Picchu chinchilla” and he found a bunch of travel pictures of ‘chinchillas’ residing in the Machu Picchu ruins. When he shared the search results with me, I remember of another creature my friend had emailed me about; those are not pictures of ‘chinchillas’ residing in Machu Picchu, but they are Vischacas! They’re close cousins of chinchillas, no wonder people mistakenly believe that they are in fact chinchillas!

One of these days I do want to make a trip to Chile’s part of the Andes mountain, where Tubby is from; and then I’m going to throw some raisins at the wild chinchillas* ;-)

*I’m just saying; don’t do this because it’ll only make the wild animals dependent on humans & it’ll just make it harder for them to survive on their own in their natural habitat.

Exotic Animals Become Drug Dealers Prey

I saw this video news & it made me angry! It’s about Mexican drug cartels that use exotic animals, such as lions, monkeys, tarantulas, and birds, to transport drugs across borders - US & China as being the 2 largest markets for these illegal animals. It’s been rumored that rivals of the drug cartels have been thrown into lions for food. These animals can cost up to $90,000 and they are symbols of wealth. It’s simply not fair for these animals who have been taken away from their natural habitats for the furtherance of human greed & ego.

Traveling Day 4

Found a whole bunch of tadpoles and snails, big and small, in a fountain filled with algae. This wasn’t my hand, it was my cousin who dared to pick up a tadpole.

Traveling Day 1

Been busy traveling. I’m easily amused, so I took the most random pictures.

A mother hen with her chicks. It was real cute; not sure if you can see from the picture, but there’s a small hill behind the mother. The mother hen flew up the hill (yes, chickens can fly), leaving her chicks behind. All the chicks started chirping because their wings weren’t strong enough to carry them to the hill (notice some of the chicks’ wings are spanned open). So the mother hen came back for her chicks.

RIP Jonah

Jonah passed away yesterday :-(

At least his pain and suffering is over and he is in a better place now.

Jonah

Jonah is [a] little dog that was hit by a car and left in the streets for 3 days, fed and watered by locals who called authorities for help. Help arrived 3 days later in the form of a trash compactor. As people took photos and videotaped what happened next[,] the world watched in horror as he was dragged by a noose around his neck with two broken legs to the trash compactor and thrown in and carted away to what they thought would be his grave. As Jonah was being dragged, videos clearly show authorities in the background laughing at this poor dog being tortured. Somehow, we don’t know how, Jonah survived this ordeal. Some say he was not crushed by the trash compactor however it has been said several of his vertebrae were crushed, he was rescued from the trash along with another dog found there and taken to a veterinarians office where he has been receiving treatment. Hopefully when he is strong enough he will have surgery and will be able to get on with his life.

People around the world fell in love with Jonah, we all prayed and gave positive thoughts on his survival; it must have worked because he is still with us. He was offered several homes outside of Turkey upon his release from the veterinarian’s office.

This is the less brutal version of the video, because it’s a collection of pictures.

This is the raw footage (warning: offensive graphics). I couldn’t finish the video, because it was just too painful for me to hear the dog whimpering nonstop.

Please help this lady’s mission to rescue and adopt Jonah by signing this petition. Or if you’re a Facebook member, join the group. It just breaks my heart that some people think of animals as merely things with no feelings.
